Inspera Advice - Dos and Donts
Quote from Carebara Diversa on May 27, 2022, 7:24 pmReceived a very long mail from a UOL student whos going crazy right now because he is afraid and anxious this exam session, afraid he will fail because of inspera.
Here some advice for exams and the inspera platform:
- Yes, inspera can track copy paste.
- Yes, inspera can see if you look constantly away from the screen.
- Yes, inspera will pick up noises from cheat sheets you prepared under your table and you try to put on the table during the exam.
- Yes, inspera will track all internet traffic from your web browser. If you do a google search during the exam on your exam PC, inspera will log the traffic (which will display the full google link and search terms), the opened web browser, its content, your mouse movements, your whole screen and your face while doing the search.
- No, UOL doesn't use inspera's eye tracking technology (as far as I know).
- Yes, you can take a bathroom brake. So stated inside the exam instructions. Do it once and keep it very short.
- Yes, inspera will red flag your bathroom brake and record everything, because there is no visible face for the webcam. The examiners then will decide what to do with it. Do it once and keep it very short.
- Yes, you can drink and eat during the exam, so stated in the exam instructions. But again, inspera will red flag these noises and face movements. The examiners then will decide what to do with it.
- Don't try to cheat. Everything is recorded. Any unusual movement or noise is suspicious. Don't try to outsmart an electronic examination platform, which sole purpose is to catch cheaters.
- Don't try to outsmart invigilators. Cheating and suddenly remembering content is very suspicious.
- No, you can not review your exam results.
- Yes, invigilators literally can do and can mark whatever they want to do. Which is a huge injustice and should be changed.
- Yes, any third person in your room will be heard and recorded through webcam and microphone.
What you should do:
- The webcam will start to record the moment you opened the exam area. The area where you can see questions or the exam to download.
- Its not stated clearly in the exam instructions but it looks like every student should take the webcam and quickly show the whole table to the webcam at the BEGINNING of the exam, AFTER you opened the area where you can download the exam paper. So that the examiners know there are no cheat sheets on the table or other stuff.
- Your whole table should have 2 things, and 2 things only: The computer and drinks.
- If you do a handwritten exam, 4 things, and 4 things only: Computer, drinks, pen, paper.
- If you do a handwritten exam, show the webcam all your empty paper AFTER you opened the exam area, where you can download the exam. Just wiggle around the paper in front of the webcam and say its empty paper to write onto.
- Some exams allow calculators. Look up the calculators which are allowed and WRITE DOWN at the end of your handwritten exam paper the name and model number of the calculator you used.
- At the top, in the middle of EVERY page you submit write down your candidate number and ONLY your candidate number. No name, no date, no address.
- No phones near your table allowed.
- If you can, take away any second screens.
- If you can, turn on any lights you have.
- Close any windows and doors.
Hope the these advice help.

Its hidden in the Detailed guidance about your online assessments:
Quote from Carebara Diversa on June 9, 2022, 2:33 pmThe whole thing is a mess, there are certain contradictions which are not explained any further:
- No, no materials allowed.
- Yes, you can take notes.
- Further information in your Admission Notice, while the Admission Notice literally doesnt provide any info about any of those questions.
Students are panicking, they payed thousands of £ for being at the mercy of invigilators, who act inside this black box. Students have no idea how they mark the assessments, cant get any info about the process and cant appeal. Typical "we dont care, just give us the money and be quiet".
Thats why I wrote students should record their desk and show the empty paper towards the camera, thats how other universities do it and they specifically demand that from their students.
