UoL Grading Scheme 2021-2022 and before
Quote from Admin on September 9, 2021, 6:15 amDisclaimer: Please look up the specifics for grading schemes inside the official program regulations for your major. The calculator we provide as well as charts and diagrams are not official. We don't have any relation or affiliation with the UoL or LSE. The calculator should be used as a tool for approximation. It should help you to understand how degree grades are calculated, which itself depends on many factors, such as RPL awards or failed courses.
This is the Grading Scheme and Degree Classification System for all EMFSS students who started their studies in 2021-2022 and earlier. We used the BSc Business and Management as an example. Your own degree may vary in course structure as well as requirements, so please look up the specific information for your own degree (which you will find inside the Programme Regulations).
In addition, we've added a conversion table from UK assessment scores to GPA scores, US letter grades and the EU ETCS system.
There are some significant changes upcoming for new students and their degree classification. If you are a new student beginning your studies in 2022, please see the new thread about the UoL Grading Scheme 2022 an onwards.
If you've received RPL Credits (Recognition of Prior Learning), these credits won't count towards your degree classification. The Programme Regulation will have more information about how to include RPL points.
Because the degree classification is kind of complicated, we created the Degree Classification Calculator for all EMFSS students!

This is the UoL Grading Scheme for all assessments as well as the final diploma. It's hidden in the programme regulation PDF file (as always... ):
UK degrees are differentiated by First Class (Distinction) | Upper and Lower Second Class (Merit and Pass) | Third Class (Pass) tiers.
If you want to apply for a Master's, normally a Upper Second Class Honours Classification is the minimum. The Bachelor's Diploma itself is classified by the following scheme:
How to calculate your degree classification?
To achieve a Upper Second Class Honours Degree, 9 marks (from 12 assessments) and their results will count towards your degree classification. The 200/300 courses count individually, while the average of 100 courses will count as a single mark. For the Upper Second Class Honours Degree, you would need to pass courses with at least:
- five upper second class marks (5 marks with 60+ %)
- or four upper second class marks and an aggregate of 515 points (combined mark 1 to 9)
